Big Blue Mouse Ears?

New to Hostas. I really like Blue Mouse Ears but understand it's very tiny. Is there a bigger Hosta that's similar?

I have ordered these so far. I'm hoping they will do well in my zone...north Texas. Any comments are welcomed:

Welcome to the forum. I have not had much luck with most of the white centered hostas. They just don't do well in our heat. Night before Christmas and Whirlwind are making it, but they turn green as the season progresses. I don't have Orange Marmalade, but I have been able to keep some of the Gold Standard sports alive. Kiwi Full Monty and Gypsy Rose both are doing great. I have had Halcyon for three years, and it is finally blooming for me. It took me awhile to try some mini hostas. I have a new Blue Mouse Ears. I don't know of a larger hosta like it. Be aware that the blues lose the waxy coating pretty fast in our heat. Good luck with your new hosta.

Hi Mary, nice to meet a fellow Texan. I have to confess I ordered these from Garden Crossings without even knowing that Hostas are pretty much heat intolerant. I did read a thread that said to stay away from white ones....wonder if I should cancel the Orange Marmalade since it seems to have a white center? I was trying to find a list of Hostas that are more tolerant of heat. I'm thinking "Deep Blue Sea" is one. The only Hosta I have is one purchased at Lowe's. No name on the tag but it resembles the one called Praying Hands.

I will look up Full Monty and Gypsy Rose....thanks for the suggestions.

BME is not tiny...it will get 12-14" across with leaves about 3" in diameter. That is up here...hostas don't get as big down south as they do up north.

If you want something that is a little bigger w/ a nice tidy appearance, I would suggest Blue Cadet. Love it!

I would add Blue Jay which is a small hosta...same as Blue Cadet. Two very nice hostas with compact clumps.

    Hello again.
Orange Marmalade will probably make it in the heat, but it may get a little ratty looking. Some hostas just are not as pretty in August.
I agree that Blue Cadet and Blue Jay are great hostas. I may try putting a potted Blue Jay in the fridge for a couple of weeks this winter just to see if it will help it be more blue in the spring. It is one of my favorites with such a pretty blue color.
It is a challenge to grow hostas in Texas, but they will grow. On the Texas forum there are several people who have grown them for years. I have mine in containers because something was getting the roots. So far so good. I am anxious to see how they do with a month of 100 degree weather. We may not have all that hot of a summer if this strange weather keeps up. That wouldn't hurt my feelings any!

Here is a link that might be useful: Hostas that should make it in the heat.

Thank you Mary, that link is very helpful. And yes, what a very strange summer we have! It's starting to rain again right now!

Papou, I really like Blue Jay...it's on the to order list. I went out today and bought a Hosta marked Blue Cadet. Not sure if that's correct because it has a white margin. It's 3rd on the right. Other two are Royal Standard and Gold Standard.
