Can garden hoses absorb chemicals?

My painters are here today cleaning up the mess they made. They are using Goof Off to get the paint of the brick part of my house and using the garden hose to wash it down.

Is there anyway the hose can absorb the nasty chemicals from the Goof Off? I realize this seems like a paranoid question, but I have a 2-year old who's pool gets filled with the hose and our vegetables get watered from the hose....

Any thoughts?

Paranoid? No, cautious. I doubt the hose could absorb a chemical from outside the hose, but standard vinyl garden hoses already contain chemicals (to keep them flexible). Many hoses are made of polyvinyl chloride, which uses lead as a stabilizer. Which is one of many reasons why is is not a good idea to drink from a hose.
There are drinking-water-safe hoses, though, for campers and such. Check the label when you purchase a hose.
