Too skeptical?

I don't believe for a second that the majority of A. rubrum and A. freemani entering commericial nursuries and home centers are truely the cultivars they claim to be. I don't see evidence of grafting. I'm convinced that they have, instead, been grown from seed. I think the supposed cultivar names (typically October/Autum/Red/Whatever and Glory/Blaze/Sunset/Whatever) attached to them are merely sketchy marketing soubriquet.

On a positive note, I think they're mostly attractive trees with good genes nonetheless. I would guess that many are only a generation or three removed from the cultivars that their tags claim them to be.

This forum has seen similar discussion about supposed "Bloodgoods".

If anyone strongly agrees or disagrees with my skepticism regarding these supposed cultivars, I'd love to hear your views.

PS - A curmudgeonly take on the old "glass half full/half empty" saying states that "A pessimist looks both ways before crossing the street, an optimist gets hit by a truck." Nonetheless, I offer this topic in the spirit of "caveat emptor" rather than "the Grinch" -- especially this close to Christmas!
