I can't beleieve there are tropical night blooming water lilies. You'll have to order them and store them in your zone. Maybe that's an indea for you down the road if your totaly into moon gardening. Make a trelis for around the pond and plant a moon vine on it.

But what a pretty idea for a moon garden near water...... Hopefully the moon will reflect sometimes into your pool....

have you ever tried new guinea impatiens....i have some around my water,above ground ponds(in frame with rocks, trailing ivy, cyclamen, purple iris,day lilys)...dont know if your climate will allow them to grow.....white with purple or red mix is stunning at night with low light close by...experiment with different plants, especially those that will hold their flowers longer than a day(only problem with day lilies) moon flowers awesome around water also...later

My daughter and i are doing the same thing this spring. We already have the pond in but we wanted to expand the garden to side and behind it. Since its borders our neighbors lot and is quite green we thought a "Moon Garden" would be fitting. We are however not only adding perennials but Roses. We want it to be very fragrant as well so we will also be adding herbs. Keep us posted on what you plant and how your garden grows. We are going to add a bench, an arbor and a few pyramid trellis in white to add height for climbing plants. Some one the garden junk forum I think talked about making stepping stones - painting them with glue in the dark paint or adding mirrors for a path. We have solar lights out there now but I would really like to put a light inside the pond. We are from MA too on the coast.

I also have a moon garden around a small pond. I have white calla lillies that did returned for me last year, hope they come back this year. I also have white roses and new this year will be two jasmines. I will have to winter them over inside like I do the gardinias. This year I am putting up a small trellis for moon flowers. The all white is beautiful, sometimes the moon is in the pond! I am new to this forum and so excited to met other moon gardeners!

Hi, I live in Zone 5 (Ontario, Canada) and put in a waterfall and pond 3 years ago. My husband and I had a wonderfull time landscaping the area once all of the grunt work was finished. We used daylilies because they're drought resistant and need very little maintenance. Near the pond edge we used Siberian Irises which have been thriving and are quite spectacular with their blue colour. We also planted two Japanese Cut Leaf Maples, a pom-pom bush, a butterfly bush, Moon Flower vines along the fence, Goliath ornamental grass, cotton tail grass, various ferns, Hot Poker perenials, hens & chicks, and a Yucca. We used a variety of ground cover...everything from Rock Crest to Irish moss. Looks great...we're happy with the results. This year we are planning a "moon garden" and will be planting "Evening Scented Stock", "Evening Primrose", "Four O'Clocks", "Nicotiana" - best scent in white, and of course our "Moon Flower" vines. If anyone would like me to save seeds for them for next season, let me know.

We have a medium sized pond and it's surrounded by white
'Bridal Veil' astilbes and white flowered cimicifuga which
has dark almost black leaves. This year I plan to plant
a "stream" of white sunshine impatiens and white heliotrope
also. The best thing is that deer won't touch any of the
above. When the astilbes (about 40) are in bloom, the
garden is awesome. Even when not in bloom, the foliage
is beautiful. (Leave the flowers on after blooming for
added interest...just a thought) Hope this helps.

The night blooming tropical water lily is a great plant. It opens up in the afternoon after the other lilies are closing down, and closes in the morning. You should totally consider it for your moon garden pond. Another choice is honeysuckle, I know lots of people don't like it, but it smells great for us northern gardeners. And sweet peas.
