Aaargh! I am having a senior moment and can't remember the name of the plant that I believe it is. The one I am thinking of has a pinkish-red stalk and is highly invasive.

When you posted last month you failed to mention the giveaway trait, silvery-white on the leaf underside.
You don't have to scout around very far to find Autumn Olive. Disturbed sites like roadbanks, abandoned lots, dumping grounds and is where you find it. Since it is going to seed you will soon be seeing it in your fencerows also.
Elaeagnus umbellata (sometimes called Uglyagnes) is an introduced Asian weed, consider yourself warned.

I just went out and looked at this tree again. Only ONE red berry remains on the entire tree. They must be a favorite among birds. Pictures that I searced on Autumn Olive have red berries that look like they have tiny white specs all over. But this berry is a solid dark red. As far as silvery-white on the underside, I'm not sure about that. Just looks like a lighter shade of green to me, but then I'm not that plant smart LOL. This tree is not in our yard, but on the property next door (rental property :( bordering our yard. It was uprooted a couple years ago, but still produces new growth every spring. To be honest, I don't know what all is growing along with that tree. I have seen what looks like a grapevine, but no grapes. A few years ago it had some very good smelling white flowers. Someone on this forum said it was some type of wild clematis vine. I took some of these inside and just draped them over my kitchen cafe curtains...they really smelled that good!!! Haven't seen any since that year. Now it's these berries. It's a strange tree if you ask me. Maybe it decides each spring what it wants to be for the summer for all I know.
