Purple Smoke Bush - bloom color

I have 2 Purple Smoke Bushes that are three years old. They are in full smoke mode right now, but the flowers or whatever they're called are beige. Boring boring beige. They're supposed to be pink! They get morning sun until about 1 PM. Does anyone know why the smoke is so colorless? Should I add something to the soil?
