I have two large clumps of blackberry lily that are blooming like crazy right now. They wintered over just fine and are bigger this year than ever.

I think leftwood also grows this plant; I believe he's crossing them for different colors. I'm sure he'll pipe up and fill us in when he sees your post.

PS: I'd be glad to trade some (plants or seeds). BTW, we share the same birth month.

I am growing some of Leaves seeds into nice little plants right now! I Winter Sowed some- and started some inside- I had a larger percenatge germinate by winter sowing- and really- that is the easiest way to go- I had high hopes that I would get blooms this year- but none yet- I haven't given up on that yet though-
If you are worried about hardieness- I would swap for MN "proven" plants. Who knows where the parents of those plants came from.....

Actually, I've been working with xPardancanda norrisii, not Belamcanda chinensis. xPardancanda is a cross of B.c. and Pardanthopsis something. Just as hardy in Zone 4 in my opinion. Pardanthopsis brings in lots of color variation, not just orange and yellow. I also have dwarf, bicolor and unspotted types too.

Pardanthopsis is definitely not as cold hardy as Belamcanda, so xPardancanda receives all its hardiness from Belamcanda. Therefore, Belamcanda is definitely hardy here too.

Both Parent species are members of the Irid clan, so make sure you don't bury them too much, although I have found that xPardancanda is not as picky as true Iris, but at the same time only somewhat drought tolerant in comparison.

Hi, I overwintered both kinds you mentioned (Belamcanda chinensis 'freckle face' and Belamcanda flabellata 'Hello Yello). I also have Pardancanda 'Petite Pastels'. 'Freckle face' started blooming on 7/21 and is still blooming. Haven't seen any blooms from the other two yet.

oops-ment to say "wintered over"-overwintering would probably mean I kept them in the house or something.

My Candy lillies are blooming! First year from seed! I am ever hopefull that the blackberry lillies will bloom also- but I fear it will have to be a very long fall for that to happen....Julie
