I have a potato question

I plan on planting potatoes in potato planters in a few weeks. I've read conflicting things about either using half compost half soil or just using all compost to plant in. Which would be better? I plan on planting Yukon Gold's, if it makes a difference.

Whichever allows you to easily put your hand in to check the size of the crop - and is free-draining, but holds moisture.

It could be worth experimenting so you know what is right for your particular location, and the soil you plan to add to the mix.

A sandy or loamy topsoil would probably be a better choice than, say, an addition of a clay soil from deeper down.

If you're using homemade compost - it could be worth sieving it. I'm always shocked to find 'the missing teaspoon' and other 'lost' items when I do. (But few are as kitchen slapdash as I am!)
