I have some Phyllostachys, but you'll need to cut the culms (stems) back and plant the rhizomes. With water and fertilizer, they'll regenerate nicely. I also have several groundcover bamboos (variegated and green).

Yes, very interested. Love bamboo. I used to have some black bamboo in a pot. I guess it grew too big and died on me. Now, I will find a corner in the yard for it.

I asked about the diameter because I am wondering if I can use the stalks for trellises in the yard.

Have any of you been successful planting rhizomes? Is it a simple as described? I think I tried it last year, but nothing grew from it.

Most species will grow from rhizomes, but they must be kept damp from digging to planting.
