Bare root is just that - bare with no dirt. Unpotted are generally sent with plastic and rubber bands around the rootball intact with most of the dirt (potting medium) -- or at least that has been my experience with nurseries that ship, and I do order often.

David, a couple of other things to watch out for...if the offer sounds to good to be true, skip it. Reputable growers can't provide us with healthy plants for no compensation. And, if the company gives only the common name for a plant, pass on that source too...you couldn't be sure of what you were going to receive.
