Falling Leaves

Hi,

I am new to this site as well as being new to plant life. I landed myself a nice new job with a big open cubicle which I began to fill with plants. One of the is a "Crotan" (I Think), and recently it's leaves have begun to fall off of the stalk (or trunk) of the plant. When they do, it is a clean break, almost as if they had been sharply cut. The leaves are still alive and healty and full of color. The soil is moist and I water about once a week depending on how the soil feels and how the tips of my plants look.

What is causing the leaves to fall? Any help would be appreciated. I also have limited light here, mostly from the office itself, I am not near any window (directly). What would be a good plant to put on my desk?

Thank You

Seth
