Can anyone tell me the diameter of Damminix tubes for treating deer ticks?

Or, failing that, the approximate smallest diameter tube that a white footed mouse can enter to fetch nesting material?

We have lots of deer ticks every year. We are in a clearing in a heavily wooded area with lots of wildlife (deer, mice, voles, birds, squirrels), and lots of stone walls. I want to take scraps of cotton, quilting, batting, dog hair (fluffy), treat it with an appropriate amount of permethrin, and put it into cut off pieces of hose, paper tubes and whatnot and tuck the tubes in around our stacked firewood & stone walls. I've got sections of old garden hose, but I'm not sure that the diameter is sufficient enough for white footed mice and some other rodents to enter. I can use toilet tissue or paper towel cylinders for chipmunks and squirrels, or perhaps put a bit into the wall loose.

I do spray clothing with DEET repellent, tuck pant legs into socks, and check for ticks, but sometimes the ticks hitch a ride on the dog and enter the house. In the last two weeks, I've picked several unattached ticks off dog, one embedded off dog, and one embedded off me.

BTW, I find that they ticks prefer moisture and some shade. They seem to retreat in really hot weather [July-Aug], then return full force in the early fall. I've found that sometimes, on a dry sunny day, taking a strong leaf blower to the vegetation near our house, steps, walls can tamp down the volume of the ticks. I don't want to spray permethrin, especially once any blooms and bees are out, because it is bad news for bees.
