Edgeworthia is borderline hardy and if yours survived last year plant it in the same situation when you move it.

my edgeworthia has been in 3 different spots in the last 2 years. one time i transplanted in the dead of summer (it was getting burnt up in afternoon sun).

so, in my experience, transplants great. also, i have never had problems with cold hardiness in portland with this guy.

My advice would be to move it as quickly as possible. Have the new hole already dug. Water thoroughly before and after moving.

"never" being uh, 4 years? not too long, but the last two winters have been decently rough. especially if you factor in constantly moving it.

its a fast grower, and should be a pleasing addition to the garden even if a freeze kills it in 10, 20 years.

Don't do it! LOL. No, go ahead. My observation about hardiness is that they are troubled more by hard early and late frosts than by extremes of temperature in the middle of winter when they are fully dormant. As their place of origin is within a climate with less standard deviation from normal than ours, it isn't surprising that this might be a problem. I've had one in the ground for years, but without fertile, well drained soil and summer water, it has grown very slowly and looks terrible. In fact I'm not sure if it's still alive.

It get too much sun, and here are even hotter summers nowadays :(

It grows relative well, but has smaller leaves and leaf scroth, despite I irrigate lot of.

I see this topic is 13 years old, but I'd ask (from the topic creator first of all), that how the transplanting success was?
