Question about Patio Trees?

I have a couple of Syringa meyeri 'Palibin' patio trees, can anyone tell me the name of the shrub? these are grafted on? We lost the grafted part on both of these, different years so we allowed a sucker to grow and grafted 'Palibin" back on. After the winter we just had they are not looking too good.

The first 'Palibin' tree we had for many years had it's head snapped off in an unexpected overnite snow fall. It was a beauty, broke my heart. I would like to start another one myself so would like to know what rootstock is used. Can someone help me with this?

Probably Syringa pekinensis. Lilacs in general can be grafted to a number of things - ash and privet are very common rootstock for grafted lilac, but other species lilac are used as well. S. meyeri and patula seem most often to be grafted on other Asian species when they are sold as tree-form.

Thanks garden gal,
I'll see what I can find, other than that I'll try rooting one of the suckers that occasionally appears from the root. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
