Problem with Hosta

Hello,

Any ideas on what might be the cause of this problem ? They plants get lots of sunshine and there are healthy looking Hosta right next to the ones that don't look too good. This problem started about a month ago. Up to then they looked fine.

Please view link to see photos.

Thank you.

Heat stress brought on by getting too dry for even a short period of time. Hosta are "heat intolerant" not shade tolerant.

What is the photo service you used?

Yes, I agree with EO. However, don't worry, you haven't killed them! They'll be good as new next spring.

Though I'm not seeing too much of it quite yet, hostas will start getting "ratty looking" this time of year. Don't be too shocked if they all start looking like that by late September. They're just going into dormancy for the winter.

Have you tried PhotoBucket for uploading your photos? It's free, easy, and we can see your photos better.

Ken!!! Bite yout tongue!!...With frost comes winter and snow and ice!

And -20 degrees and nasty windchills. Ugh! I really don't want to think about frost, I just got a break from no rain and 90+ temps. Let me enjoy a few weeks of pleasant weather before I have to think about dealing with the cold.

Thank you for you answers. The hosta get about half a day of full sun and was watering them but only once a week. My neighbor has the same plants on the North and shaded side of the their home and they look very good. But waters them almost daily when it's hot.

I'm not really using a photo service. The web pages are created using Adobe Elements software and then uploading the site to my AOL web space. I'll see about using PhotoBucket next time.

i water mine... drip irrigation .. 4 to 8 hours .. [.25] gals per dripper .. 12 inches a apart ... every 2 to 3 days from the time the pips show.. until the ground is nearly frozen ... minus cool weather and rain ...

your hosta are missing about 3/4 of the water they need ... which is probably what the neighbor is giving them ....

i am tired.. i am looking forward to fall .. and winter ...

    good luck

PS: you really need some better hosta .... lol .. i think its time to start a collection ... said the 'drug pusher' to the naive .... lol

    Drug pusher...LOL!!

Ken, that is my number one complaint (other side of the coin is benefit) about the two forums in which I am now actually posting (daylilies and hostas). Before, I thought I had a nice collection, different from what most other folks have because I was shopping at a local nursery which specializes in daylilies and hostas rather than the corner garden center. Now, I realize that what I have is nice, but only a drop in the bucket of what is out there...and you all keep posting more and more plants that I want. I've started my list for next spring (my husband doesn't know that yet :-)...and I'm not sure where I'm going to plant everything...oh well, that will be the next problem to tackle. :-) ...and yes, I'm addicted!! Who knew that could happen on a garden forum?? :-)
