You can certainly plant them outside, but they'll bloom in summer, and it will probably take a couple years before they bloom again at all.

Easter lilies are forced in greenhouses to bloom at Easter, an unnatural time for them, and one that shifts around every year too. Their natural bloom time is summer, like all other lilies.

Well, that's ok then. I can deal with having them bloom in the summer; I just hate seeing them all get dumped out. So I guess i'll start bringin' 'em home and make a space for 'em.

I've seen individual plants blooming in local gardens but never a big clump, which suggests they may not persist for years. In the past it has been stated stocks are virused so maybe the plants fizzle due to that. It has also been pointed out virused Easter lilies may transmit (presumably via aphids) the viruses to other lily family plants in the vicinity when planted outdoors.

I have not had good luck with them planted out in the garden. They have fizzled (good word) for me. I have nice clumps of other lilies but have given up on Easter lilies...
