skunks

I must say this year my tall cherry blossum trees were fantastic and they were backed by purple rodies. What a sight! Everything seems to have come through the winter in fine shape - even the 'hundred year flood' a while back.

Just when I thought this year would be the greatest, a skunk is now living under my deck. I've noted the various rememdies to encourage him/her to go elsewhere and I've posted in a number of message groups and still can't get the answer I need, so thought I would try here.....my problem is what to enclose the deck with and especially how to handle the stairs. Surely someone here has some experience!

The deck is 14-18 inches off the ground and the stairs are just 2 steps but at a corner like a wrap around. They are just planks on regular cut stringers.

Some say lattice, others say wire fencing like the 24 inch with the lower section closed tighter - to keep rabbits out - which I use for my one special garden. One person even said a skunk could fit through the lattice. Other sites say to sink lattice 12 inches into the ground.

Soooo before I hit the HD/Lowes to spend $ for 36 linear feet of enclosure, I thought maybe someone here had to do the same thing for the same reason and could give me some pointers.

First I have to get my arms to recuperate from planting 100 pots of Woolly Thyme!
