Introduction

I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm new to this forum. I'm not new to gardening, but I'm a new hosta addict! I garden in Kentucky.

After neglecting my garden for the past 2-3 years, I realized I had a lot more shade since my trees have grown! I have loved hostas since I visited Wade & Gatton nursery in Ohio about 10 years ago, but since I had very little shade at the time, I never planted any. I probably never would have known how beautiful a hosta garden could be if I hadn't visited that nursery!

Anyway, I have planted lots of new hostas this year, and I'm trying to keep them alive through our hot, dry months of Aug. and Sept. I hope they will do well next year.

I look forward to learning a lot here and getting to know you in the process!

I will post pictures, if you want to see what I've started!

We would love to see photos of your gardens! I am always looking for inspiration and the best place to find it is in other peoples yards LOL!

    Bring 'em on!

    welcome ....

if your new hosta.. have not gone summer dormant.. nor have brown edges ... then they have been watered enough ..

and if they were watered enough ...

you need do nothing else... especially worrying .... about whether they will be back next spring.. and most likely .. they will be bigger ...

i will be waiting for the pix ...

Thanks for the warm welcome!! I will post some pics when I get home from work today!

Ken--some of my new hostas did start turning brown around the edges, so I'm watering about 1" per week faithfully to make sure no more leaf edges turn brown. A couple of plants actually looked like they were getting smaller, so I'm trying to keep them from shrinking any more! We had a VERY dry spell here during August. I hope Sept. is better, but it's another dry month usually.

    What is summer dormant??

    Welcome Lenore!

I live about 15 minutes north of Madison, Wisc. and love it here! I'm a hosta addict and now have almost 260 different varieties. I introduced hostas to my sister who lives in the burbs near Detroit and she was shocked to find she had over 100 hostas...so watch out...the addiction is contagious!
