Lily of the Valley Question

In March I purchased some Lily of the Valley pips at Home Depot. I planted them in pots, with potting soil. (I had read that I could start them indoors) I watered them, but they never sprouted. They had indirect sunlight only. I've set them outdoors for the past three weeks, now that the weather is in the 60's/70's. Still nothing.

I dug up 3 of them, and planted them in a shady area last week. (I noticed they were unchanged when I removed them from the pots.) Still nothing.

Is there any reason I should bother planting the remainder of these? It seems pretty hopeless. Any recommendations on anything to stimulate growth?
