I have those too. I just try to pull them out. I just gave my Mock Orange a trim. Is it the right time? It didn't look good and had hanging down branches. I like mine to have a more formal trimmed appearance. For future trims, when is the best time to give it a good haircut? I have never had a Mock Orange before.

My Mock Orange has never suckered, it does send up new branches from the base/ground. Mock Oranges like most flowering shrubs should be pruned/shaped immediately after flowering otherwise if you do it later you will be cutting off next years flowers . It is my understanding that some of the older branches can be pruned to the ground leaving newer branches to take their place. All the Mock Oranges I have seen have been grown in a fashion as to show their arching habit.

I agree with A... In 10 years, I've never had any suckers. In fact, I have one growing beautifully in a barrel.

I have an old mock orange that is 25 ft. tall, and 30 yr. old. Has never suckered yet.
