How narrow and how tall?

If you want thinner, elegant look, perhaps a weeping Cedar of Lebanon; or if you wanted a bushier tree for shade that was slightly narrow, then the Vanderwolf pines have done good for me.

Neither will appreciate shade or fit in a small space. The naturally upright one that has been sold as weeping (or blue weeping) Cedar-of-Lebanon is a scarecrow habit type of Himalayan cedar. It was quite prevalent in nurseries for a time.

Hi! Sorry for my delay, thanks for your replies. How narrow? Probably topping out at 3 feet in diameter, or consistently 2' from base to top, if such a thing exists. Would love it to grow 15-20' high. The Himalayan Cedar looks kind of cool, but could I prune it to keep limbs short?

So this spot is located between your house and garage? How much space? How canyon-like is this space? You mention wanting to keep it in the 2 to 3' range. Maybe you want a garden sculpture?

probably some sort of columnar yew? lots of varieties. some are even narrower than 3ft...

Closest fit might be Semiarundinaria fastuosa with root barrier.

It's actually not canyonlike at all - it is on the north side of my garage, but there is another 15 feet of yard to the north of that which is open. However, my house is East of all this, blocking any morning sunlight that might want to get to that area. The west is shaded by large trees in my neighbor's yard.

Other stuff that is growing well there: daphne, a dogwood shrub, hellebores.

The Yew I saw at my nursery had multiple trunks and therefore multiple tops, which is a look I wasn't fond of. But google images show many, highly prunable types. Maybe I'll keep looking.

Bumping this back up... did you ever find anything for this space? I'm looking for the same thing for the exact same garage wall setup. :)
