Thx for the pix. Wonder what type that is? I've planted a few eucs and want to plant more. Love these trees, tremendous variety. Have been worried a really cold winter will kill them off but it looks like some manage to grow older here. Have a scoparia (white ghost gum) and spinning wheel, mountain, lots, can't remember names. Met a guy at Cistus that travels and finds hardy seeds and grows them. So tempted to plant more. Interesting evergreen trees, wonderful fragrance. Mine are growing very fast.

I believe those are Eucalyptus pauciflora, but I could be wrong. Yea, a really cold winter could very well wipe the slate clean. One positive thing that has happened in the last few years, are people are planting species of Eucalyptus that are more adaptible to Western Washington. There also has been a number of lessons learned from the past, so certain species that have done well surviving past Arctic blasts are being used on a larger scale. I sure hope I won't have to get the chain saw out too soon!

There are so many eucalyptus species and Australia has so many different climates. Wouldn't surprise me if there are many more that would do well here that just aren't grown commercially...yet...

26 years ago when I worked at a garden center in Phoenix we only had about five available. Three of them really grew far too big and were too messy to be good garden trees and all of them were grossly over planted in lawns and suffered dreadfully from over watering and iron chlorosis. They got a bad rap.

There are so many more now and many more commercial landscapes are xeriscaping and not planting them in lawns. In newer sections of town (Phx) the smaller ones like E. spathulata look and behave really nice.

I don't know squat about hardy ones but I see a few around. The gray foliage always stands out for me and I smile.

As a former florist, I got enough of the fragrance and gunk on my hands to last me a lifetime. No need to plant in my yard. LOL I do love that smell.
