I don't have/grow phrags too but the shape and unique color of this one looks like a winner to me. By the way, the bottom picture seems to tell me that the plant size of this particular variety is not that big, right?

In my experience, Eric Young can grow to be a fairly large plant. Certainly not the largest phrag, but when you consider that Eric Young is 1/2 longifolium, you get the picture. Anyway, phrag seedlings will often bloom on their first growth while they are still (comparatively) small. However, subsequent growths are typically much larger. The upshot is, the bigger growths usually produce more flowers that are of higher quality (deeper color, bigger, better formed) than that first spike.

Very nice!!! I've fallen in love with phrags because they are sooooo easy to grow. If it weren't for the size issue, I'd have more of them.

I have Eric Young 'Droody and mine is a small growing plant. I've had it three years, it bloomed last year for the first time and it has multiple growths this year. My bloom is a lot dark though.
