Uh-oh, do not eat ! Unless I'm mistaken, from the picture it looks like you have a weed in the Solanaceae family, nightshade. Foliage and berries can be toxic to animals and people.

Be sure to remove those fruits or you're have seedlings all over that area next spring as that's what we had this year from the plant that flowered late summer last year. Quite a vigorous root system when you pull it up & an interesting looking plant, but not really one you'd want around.

You can recognize the nightshade type purplish fuzzy stems with distinctive tomato plant like leaves. I pulled them repeatedly in April & mulched with straw over that area to stop the germination.

Thanks everyone. Now that you all gave me a reference and a name to look up, I have been able to find a lot on the internet and my own reference books. It looks like mine may be an edible variety...though since there is a lot of debate on the net and a lot of toxic varieties I will not add it to my home menu until absolutely sure.
