Just a warning, their roots are really deep and break easily.
But I would do it now, because they start growing early in the spring.

Columbines only look good for a couple of seasons. I would just get some new plants.

I have found that it's best to transplant most perennials in spring, just after the plants start growing. Not sure why, but I get better survival. Maybe because the plant is actively growing, and can protect itself from the root injury.

Now I am not sure what to do. For these columbines it was only first season. They are volunteers that grew out of stuff that I got from landscape company but blooming was so great. I like this blue color.
I think i'll try to move them now, they are growing too close to blueberry bush.

Probably Aquilegia vulgaris. Why do they have to be moved, is the blueberry tiny?

yes, blueberry is still small and it gave only one new branch this summer, so i am assuming that columbines are getting in a way and I prefer flowers to be in other area of garden in any way.

If apparently stunted blueberry may have root rot or other problem, regardless of columbines being there also. Modern cultivars begin bearing when quite small, to the point of top growth being limited markedly. As with young grafted apple trees removal of immature fruits recommended during early years, until top is bigger.

I'd move them now. I've found them very resilient.

If they don't make it, I'll have seeds I can mail you next year. They grow easily from seed. I have the tallish cobalt blue ones.

I have moved my columbines hoping that they will survive. I hate killing any plants. :]

bboy, maybe you are right. I did not remove first berries. Maybe this is a reason.
