According to the resources we use in our county's Extension Service office, the only suggestion is to destroy the infested canes.

The reason is that the larvae are now inside the canes, near the base. They'll feed inside the cane for a while in spring, then chew a hole in the cane, then pupate inside the cane. The adults emerge from June to July -- don't know if that's the time where you live, so you might check with your own county Extension Service office.

Doesn't much matter though, because no pesticides are registered for use in home gardens.

So it sounds like a sanitation project -- clean out old canes and destroy.
