Outstanding, Ken! These are some real grandaddies! Just what I envision about when I dream of hostas! My favorites among these pics is Lady Isobel and Sea Lotus Leaf. I just love the huge, round, cupped, and intensely corrugated leaves. One of my favorites is hosta 'Iroquois.' So large and puckered. I just can't wait until my 'Iroquois' forms a humungous clump! So Ken, This is what it means when people say , you may not have a real Elegans ? Were the seedlings sold under the mothers name too? I guess that would make for one big mess down the line this many years later...Must be plenty of imposter's all over then. I guess nothing short of a DNA test, would work, if anyone has the real original any more. Interesting stuff thanks for the pix & info. ~Dot

Again wow!

the picture must be in the other post about giants

nicest clump formation ...

some of the ss clones get big... but they look unruly in comparison ..

Ken, Elatior can indeed get large - 6-7 feet across and 4-5 feet tall in Pacific NW, with the moisture.

Paul Aden had a King Michael (Mikado, Big Jim, all the same) in his garden in 1982 that was probably the largest hosta clump I have seen - leaves about 5 feet tall, clump 6-8 feet across. He had it placed on a hillside as a backdrop for some lower gardens, somewhat overhanging: very impressive.

Have seen Van's garden S&S at max size; since seen a fortunei hyacynthina glauca in Sweden that hadn't been moved for 60+ years 6-7 feet across, 3 feet high.

Those of you who may have visited my Delaware house in the late 1980's may have remembered the very large 'Green Acres" by the front door I had to move because it started taking over the front porch and garden: it was 6-7 feet across, 60+ divisions.

Over the years I have seen numerous seiboldiana clumps, gigantea, Gold Regal, SunPower, Solar Flare fortuneis all 6+ feet cross and 3-5 feet high. Dan Heims had a huge all green cultivar (name escapes me) that won the last Portland AHS cutleaf show - that clump was 5+ ft high!

Enjoyed the pictures Ken!
