WITH THE WAY THE NURSERY BIZ HAS BEEN OVER THE LAST 5 YEARS ... oops .... and the way the hosta prices have fallen in the last ten years ..

i bet you arent going to find a lot of catalogs with good pix..

    naylor has some ...

    the one noted above ...

in fact ... in my experience.. there never were many that had any pix ... just black and white lines of names ... the web is where you find the pix ...

just too many of our drug dealers are just backyard nurseries .. hosta labs.. meth labs.. for us 'holics ... not much of a difference ... lol

this is why you join a club and take summer garden tours with camera and BIG notebooks in hand ... to see the real thing ...

Shady Oaks has lots of pics including many new ones. They are wholesale only, but adding your name to their mailing list is worth it just to get the catalog each year.

A couple others with pics (besides those already mentioned) are Klehm's Song Sparrow Nursery and Walters Gardens wholesale catalog.

If you want picture of the hostas you like in a particular
print-only catalog, or online, just mark them or make a list, then go to hostalibrary.org (we've all done it!) and just click on the name. It is in alphabetical order, and pretty complete.
Along with Don, I recommend keeping the PD or Shady Oaks catalogs as a quick reference for photos. There are a few others that I keep for up to date perennials and shrubs, too. Klehm's is one.

Shady Oaks and Walters do have nice color catalogs...but color catalogs are very expensive to print, not to mention postage. Why not give these companies a break and not waste their money requesting a catalog, if you are not a wholesale buyer? Ultimately, this will just force them to raise their prices. I doubt anyone will be happy about that.

I will say that part of the blame lies with these companies for not requiring credentials from anyone requesting a catalog. I also know some people are deceitful and use business credentials that are in no way nursery related to get wholesale catalogs.

Anyone can access the photos and plant descriptions on their websites.

Not meant to be taken personally by anyone. As a business owner myself, I just know I do not appreciate people wasting my money...it's hard enough to come by, as is!

    Hi Josh,
Personally, I've bought hostas from Shady Oaks before. I think anyone can order from them as long as they order a large enough quantity. If you don't have any intention to place an order, however, it would be proper to give them a call to see if you can purchase a catalog.

Naylor Creek charges $5.00 for a color hard copy of Plant List. Refundable with your first order.

Shady Oaks has just about all the same photos on their sitethat are in the catalog, so you really don't need a paper catalog. And the hosta library is great.

I always use Hosta Library OR I just go to Google.com, click "images" and enter whatever I want:

    Â Â hosta "blue cadet"

Unlike botanical references, where we'd use single quotes - 'Blue Cadet' - for Google to keep the words together, you need double quotes "like this."

No! I'm wrong! Google WILL accept single quotes, so nevermind. :) Just use some kind of quotes to keep the name together, and leave the word "hosta" outside the quotes.
