Thanks all. It really is quite different than the other hybrid dens I grow. The flowers feel like velvet and cluster together on a shorter spike.

Stitz, I got this plant in 04 at my OS auction. The label did not have the name of the nursery. Strange it was only registered last year. Curious how you found out. I would like to know what's behind it. I never did research it.

Seem to have so little time lately and feel my poor plants are so neglected. Yet they still surprise me with their flowers. I often wonder what they would do if I had time to spend on them. Probably die...

Jane, that's so pretty. The color immediately struck me as blue. Is the color in the photo about right? Whatever you're doing (or not doing) it's definitely working!

I hope I have the space for dens someday. They're so decorative.

Jane, the information is easy to locate. I did it through OrchidWiz. OrchidWiz gets this info from the RHS. By using this web page, http://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/registration_orchids.asp
anyone can do this. You already had the parents' names. That's most of the work.

The "Originator" of this hybrid was Carmela. I have no idea who Boros is/was. It might have been someone at an OS who purchased a plant like you in '04, bloomed it last year and made the effort to register it with the name of someone special! :-)

Thanks John, actually the color in the photo is pretty close. It is more bluish than purple. John, when you buy that place on the W.Coast, you'll hang them from the Palm trees.

Stitz, thank you so much for the information. Now it makes sense why this den flowers at various times from leafed and leafless canes. Its truly a Heinz variety! Orchid Wiz does seem to be a worthwhile investment. I truly appreciate you taking the time to look it up for me. The photo does not look like my plant. Totally different color. My plants label says 'Carmela.' I think it came from them.
