My suggestion is to use a weed eater altough not an organic option the only other choice seems to be Garden Sheers ??? But with gas @ 122.00 a barrell well !!! The garden shears may be a valid option.

A mulching rotary mower seems to do the best at least for me. Very simple and easy. just mow and be done.

I'd like to aplogize for my wiseguy comments. I thought heatherwood may have been looking for a way to mulch leafs for a compost bin without buying a powered leaf shredder and I do use a weed eater.

Yeah, I'm looking for a way NOT to use gas or electricity. I have a reel mower, and don't want to use that.
That would be cool if some entrepeneur (sp?) would invent a hand cranked one and sell it to us greenies. Maybe something in which you put the leaves in the top and then crank a handle on the side and out comes fine leaf particles from the bottom. :)
