Phal Elizabeth Hayden

This Phal is not only unusual in the shape of the lip forming another petal, but its growing characteristics have been confusing.

The original photos were from the seed crossing and was a plant that was several years old and had flowered before. It had a pronounced color difference from the pink stripes and the background of the flower.

None of the clones (over 1000 plants) bloomed this winter to the disappointment of Joe Hayden, the grower. Now without any artificial cooling they are coming into bloom in Florida heat 80-90 degrees. They are under shade cloth with evaporative coolers but it is still very hot.

Surprising all the clones seem to be more pink that the original. The color might change as the plant matures or it may not. It has been an interesting plant.

The outside two flowers in this photo are the seed original and the center is this months clone flowers.
