A few things blooming

Jack Frost Brunnera,

Variegated Solomon's Seal

My little whip of Black Gold Sweet Cherry and I intend to leave the blooms on! I want to see how they taste.

The pie cherry tree, maybe North Star,

It was like pruning in a snow storm of white petals from the tree yesterday while working in the berry patch.

and the snowball bush in its green stage. I sprayed it with dormant oil this year to see if I could get a jump on the aphids that simply destroy it each year. I will be watching it closely now.

Nice pictures. That cherry is tall and big like my crab apple. How do you pick the cherries? You think your tree is a little whip, you should see the little mail order plants that came yesterday. They are Carmine Jewel Dwarf sour cherry and are 6 to 8 inches tall.

I don't know whether to put it in a pot for a while or stick it in the ground.

That is tiny! If you do plant it, be sure to mark it well. I can just see me cutting it down or pulling it up.

I have been buying my fruit trees from ACN and they are usually a good size but they tell you if one is going to be very small.

As for the cherry tree, I can pick a lot standing on the ground and then I use an 8-foot ladder wit dh standing at the base to hold it. I just pick and freeze what we want and let the mocking birds have the rest. I have never picked the top of the tree.

That is worth planting. Why did I get dwarf plants? The good thing about cherries compared to pears is that the birds will clean them up. Before my pear tree died the pears would fall and rot and be covered in yellow jackets.

That must be a warm corner Glenda. Your Variegated Solomon's Seal is much taller than mine and already blooming.
I had about a dozen blooms on my Balaton Cherry last year but only one cherry and I didn't get to eat it. I should've put a net around it I guess. I have a lot more blooms this year. Hope we don't get a freeze.

I think Carmine Jewel is one I bought last spring but I didn't plant it out. Mine was tiny too. I potted it up into a gallon container and kept in on my patio. There was a note in the catalog that it hadn't been tested for areas with hot summers so I put it back where it would get shade under our balcony when it got so hot last summer. It made it through and has leafed out again this spring. It's still pretty small - doesn't look like it's outgrown the gallon container. I'm just happy that it's still alive.

I love how you planted your Jack Frost and S. Seal together. They look good. I think I may move some of my S. Seal next to my Jack Frost. Anyway, my Jack Frost is blooming also and pics just don't do it justice. It's so pretty!
