Does anyone grow pussy willow? I think I want one but am not sure why. I think in a magazine they used the long branches to make trellises and fences. I have woods all around so I have lots of branches, but if I saw a cheap pussy willow I might be tempted. Sandy I notice a pleasant smell when my oak leaf hydrangea blooms. I don't need any more plants that require a lot of water but it is hard to keep that in mind this time of year.

I should have said viburnum instead of hydrangea. My bad! They are the ones with the heavenly scent. They outdo the lilacs in the spring.

I've had pussy willows, but they need a lot of water. I did see some at Lowe's the other day, I forget how much they were. If I could find a good place to plant one where it would stay moist I might try one, but the only place I have is near the end of my septic drain field and I don't want to do THAT! Lol! We just dug that up and cleaned all the roots out last summer.

I had just the common one for several years and didn't give it any special care, extra water or anything. Then it died.
I understand they are not extremely long-lived.

I have always wanted the black pussy willow. The catkins are really gorgeous.

Mosswitch - I don't think Mariesii is fragrant. Are you sure you got the one you wanted? Could you be thinking of v. carlesii?

Christie, you're right, it isn't fragrant. But I do have v. carlesii up by the house,and it is very fragrant. I actually just needed another variety of v. doublefile for pollination with the one I have. It's in the woods anyway.

It should be very pretty. I have one called Shasta that I think is similar. It's not fragrant but it blooms heavier than my others.

I have Summer Snowflake. Just planted it last fall so I haven't seen it bloom yet but it's supposed to be a good one.
