The grasshoppers are definitely winning. My bushes are almost bare - I have tried all the organic solutions I could find - oils, peppers, garlic, etc. etc. Homemade, storebought, diatomaceous earth, you name it and i bet I have tried it. My yard smells like an oil factory or a pepper plant half the time.

If I didn't have a dog that eats dead bugs, I'd give up on the organics and spray everything with Sevin, as I do feel I am bringing a knife to a gunfight by trying to even slow down the grasshoppers with organic solutions.

I am currently shopping for chickens but I will need about 1000 of them to do much damage. I know I have hundreds of thousands of grasshoppers between what's in my yard and the surrounding pastures.

I have sprayed my bushes with Neem and all it did was kill all the leaves on one of them. I haven't noticed that it repelled a single grasshopper.

I have decided to try to keep my bushes from completely dying by spraying grasshoppers directly with Neem oil as they sit there munching away. Will the Neem at least kill THOSE grasshoppers so I am not spraying the same bugs over and over again?

I read that I could plant something like cilantro as a repellent. Could I plant it now, in the middle of the summer, and if I did do you think it would actually do any repelling? If so, do I just plant it in a circle around my bushes?

Thanks so much. I am going insane with this. We just moved back to Texas after spending 17 years in Indiana and I don't remember ever seeing grasshoppers down here like this when I lived here previously.
