Yep. I saw 28 snakes today in mid-Missouri. Admittedly I was trying to find them, but yeah, they're definitely out.

Me too! We had a garter snake on the patio yesterday. My visitors went bonkers, so I caught it and transferred it to the field.

WOW.. you got plenty of snakes. Yesterday, We cleaned up around the old compost and found several old snake eggs! I got some good and bad snakes around in my yard.

I haven't seen snakes yet, but have been bitten several times by ticks & chiggars! Bummer! Wish they could all wait to come out & pray. (PUN ENTENDED)

I am in the early planning stages of moving South (I current live in the frozen tundra known as MA). We supposedly have rattlers up this way except no one I know has ever seen one. After reading some threads, it sounds like poisonous snakes are EVERYWHERE in the South. Is this true? I am deathly afraid of snakes and from some old posts people were talking about snakes in their sinks, trash bins, shoes ...everywhere. Just how often do you see these 6 foot monsters? Any input is greatly appreciated!

Ummm, yeah, I pull a 6 foot monster snake out of my shoes at least once a week.

Bear in mind, most people don't KNOW the difference between a poisonous snake and a non-venomous one. So to them, they're all man-eaters/killers. We have snakes more of the year than you do (pretty much year round), but I doubt we have any more per square mile than the East Coast does. Another possibility is that some architecture in the South and West is much more open (allowing entrance of the snakes...ummm everywhere).

Being a Texas gal I am not a stranger to nasty snakes. But they are not all nasty. Last year I was on the deck watering and heard a heck of a commotion. Looking toward the flap flap flap sound I saw a terrified snake that had been napping in the cool moisture spot where my water hose hooks to the faucet and drips a bit. He was so big and he was pushing off...his body spread out to get a good start. When he got straigthened out he slid over my other deck in a straight path and was gone from sight. I'm not going to flirt with snakes. But he was so terrified it almost made me feel sorry for messing up his nap. I said almost!

The last 2 springs, a huge black snake has been trying to copulate (or at least that's what it looks like) with the hose that is wound up on the reel out back. I need to get the hose put back out so he can have his jollies. LOL

Well, you might have a point. I hadn't thought of it that way. LOL By the way, this was a huge black snake. My hose is green? What color is yours? :-)
