Yellow is ok. I'm sure it's ok to use. It takes three or four weeks to see any results. Water it in to get the microbes working on it. Do not underestimate the power of SBM. After two or three feedings your lawn will be green and growing and you will be begging for mercy.

I'm pretty sure it's not going to be harmful but I was worried it might not be as effective as it should be. Oh well, I'll have a feed store order some next time as there are several close by but I didn't want to wait till Friday to fertilize.

What setting is appropriate for the SBM on the scotts basic drop spreader? I had it at 7 or so but It was laying down really thick and too too fast. I moved it down to 3 and it seemed a pretty good setting for the amount it was throwing and it didn't run out too fast.

No such thing as "bad" or "old" SBM. It might get some bugs in it but at that point I would just consider it pre-digested. The microbes are going to do things to that SBM that some may call obscene, but the benefits are all the same. I've stored SBM for 1-1/2 years, the bag had gray mold all over the outside of it, there were little mealy bugs in it, but I spread this stuff and it went down like the day I'd bought it. Worked like a charm.

i've bought 4 bags and all were yellow. one bag was delivered to the feed store the very same day i got it. i was expecting brown....i'm not sure why, i just thought soybeans were brown. they could be blue for all i know lol
