FYI - Snowball Bushes

I have had a huge one by the back porch but for years it was so deformed and the blooms all stunted by millions of aphids every year that I had about given up on it. I sprayed each year to kill the aphids, but it really didn't do much good.

This year when I was spraying the orchard with dormant oil, it occurred to me that maybe there were eggs of aphids on the bush and it would be helpful to spray it.

I did and it did! These blooms are almost the size of a grapefruit, with lots more smaller ones and I haven't spotted an aphid anywhere.

You know gardening; maybe this just isn't a year for aphids or it could be any number of things. I just know for at least 10 years I have had ugly blooms and this year I don't. I will be using dormant oil from now on....
