I've never seen wild honeysuckle with red buds like that.
Cross your fingers that it's a sterile hybrid that won't reseed. : ) I think you should keep it.

Christie, keep it! Then contact a grower like Bluestone and offer your plant for their inspection. Might be worth mucho $$$ for the sport -- I'd be the first to buy it if it wasn't invasive like Hall's --

I have the Halls honeysuckle everywhere and I almost forgive it this time of year. I think you can watch it and contain it by your porch. I say this and mine is all over the pond bank and has smothered red quince etc. A garden should smell like a garden though and you can't beat honeysuckle. It has already invaded and that could be from the birds just a coincidence that it grew by your other honeysuckle.

Christie, I think that is what this was, Dropmore Scarlet. I have had it lots of years and earlier in April it was the red trumpet vine! The leaves on this new one are larger and slightly a different shape too.

I didn't know what the buds on the wild one looked like. Thanks for pointing it out to me. I did a Google and you are right; they are not red!

I found an original bloom on a vine under the later blooming one. You can see the subtle difference in the leaves.

Glenda I have the Hall's which has a yellow flower and also a purple stemmed variety which is sold in nurseries. Maybe someone gave you a plant that had a root of it. I have honeysuckle that looks like yours with pink buds and I purchased it.
