I may be the wrong person to ask. I purposely planted clover in my lawn. It adds nitrogen to the soil and it's very good at dealing with low water conditions.

clover in lawns is a growing trend in organic gardening, or so i read. I leave the clover in my lawn, those clover-covered areas are the thickest, greenest parts of my lawn.

You're right, clover fixes nitrogen into the soil so it's good for keeping your lawn greener.

it's also got the whole sustainability thing down because bees frequent clover flowers.

When I was growing up (back in the 1940's and 1950's) hacing White Dutch Clover in your lawn was the accepted thing and people seeded it to provide a Nitrogen source since commercial fertilizers were not that readily available (I can remember when the neighborhood hardware store started carrying Armors Lawn Fertilizer). Then the synthetic "weed" killers came on the market and everyone found they killed the WDC as well so that then became a noxious "weed" where before, and today for some of us it is a very beneficial plant.
