I just ate some kohlrabi this evening I got from the Springfield Farmer's Market. I like it sliced raw, sprinkled with fresh lemon juice and a touch of sea salt. Deelish.

How big around should I let it get?

Have lemons and sea salt and will be trying that.

What kind did you plant Glenda? I had Purple Vienna last year and let some of them go too long. The ones I picked earlier tasted better. They were bigger than a golf ball, smaller than a tennis ball. I didn't fertilize though.
This year I planted Grand Duke. They're not bulbing out yet.
I liked them better raw than cooked.

Violet - how big were the ones you bought and did they say what variety they were?

It was the size of a hedgeapple or softball. I'm sure it was a White Vienna. You can see a bunch of photos of kohlrabi here:

I got eager and picked just one that was the size of a baseball or slightly smaller. Had it with sea salt and Balsamic vinegar. Very tasy! Of course, the rest of the family wouldn't touch it....

Mine is the all white variety.
