On the fourth,I am riding in a carriage in the Marshfield parade.It is Marshfields sesquetennial? so it should be a big deal.As you might remember,Pres.Bush visited about 15 years ago.No,I don't want your pneumonia-had it once-that was enough!Could trade you weeds and weedy flowers tho.Or would give you all my bermuda grass!I am also a Judy and have often wondered how many are on garden web and if they are all about the same age.Its not a popular name and hasn't been since the famous Judy's.Hope you are getting lots of rest and are well soon.Take really good care of yourself.Posy Pet

PosyPet--the carriage ride sounds like a neat thing to do.

We usually have a family BBQ with fireworks, etc. This year I am not planning anything--lots going on personally so will plan on having a restful day. It has been really dry here as well so fireworks might not be a good thing. We live on a hill so can sit out front and watch several fireworks displays around us.

We just bought a lovely spot just inside one of the Ozark Natl. Forests near Lake Wedington. I have been working and reading this area of the GardenWeb-learning how and what to plant.
The neighbors are SO WONDERFUL. Today as I was digging in the dirt, a relative of the former owner dropped by to introduce herself and invited my family to celebrate the 4th with she and her town of Savoy. "We all get together and bring chicken for our own family, and dish to share. I'll introduce you to alot of nice people."
We are new to this area, and fairly new to Arkansas. Being here one yr. this June. So I am very impressed, and blessed, by the warmth and kindness of the people in this area!

Interesting to read your Page. We came here from Arizona in 1986 to escape heat and other reasons. We have found the best way to replace grass with gardens is to put up cages of welded wire fencing, Put layers of newspaper on bottom and around edges. Pile in the fall leaves. Leave it alone for the winter. In spring put on some top soil. Sow annuals. Let it keep decaying. When annuals die set out perennials or pull up annuals. Leave the annuals there and they will self sow. Most of our gardens have been started that way. If you want evidence click on our page. We have also done tree removal and trimming around the house. Nashonii, welcome to the Ozarks. I know I am partial, but I love this land! It sounds like you have chosen a wonderful, friendly community.

The 4th here will be very quiet, but sometimes that is what DH and I enjoy! We could go in to the nearest town for the activities, but may just sit on the porch.

Thank you gldno1. You may have read my questions about this area when we were just thinking of visiting here...they are way back in the back of this forum..last year in June.
I was asking if the people around here were friendly. LOL
I thought the answers were just 'partial'. But they turned out to be true-for us anyway. The people we have met,(outside of work), have been so friendly and warm. Thank you for the welcome.(I hope too many other people don't find out about this place!) LOL

We'll have our regular family barbeque then go up on top of the mountain, turn the radio to the station that plays the music that is coreographed to the big fireworks display in Heber Springs over the lake and watch it from across the lake as we always do. We don't have to fight the traffic but still get to see all the beauty and enjoy the evening with the few others that have found "our" special spot!lol When we first began going up there there were only us and a couple of other cars but now there are about 10 or so. We have family in for the holidays and as usual our little store will be buzzing since it's the closest one to the lake and park at this point. Happy holiday everyone!

We are going to have a BBQ, and shoot off a few fireworks. We will be able to see Carthage's display from our place and watch everyone else's too. It won't be a big party, just my husband, our daughter, myself and a friend of ours. He has no family in the area and so we wanted to include him.
I will have to work tomorrow morning, then get ready for the dinner, plus work on my sidewalk that I am putting in. Not doing much, just kinda a normal day.
