I got a little bit of rain this evening. It didn't last as long as it needed to but maybe enough so I won't have to water tomorrow at least.

Had to get my kids' pet rabbit put to sleep today. She was old and had cancer. Guess who cried the most. Aren't we supposed to get tougher as we get older? I bawled all the way to the vet's and back home again and I swear I didn't really care for her THAT much. She dug burrows in my backyard that would put a groundhog to shame. I can fill in the holes and do some landscaping back there now. sniff

I walked around to our patio today and saw a flash of black and white zoom by. No - not a skunk. Much worse. A
KITTEN. Aaaaaahhhh Then I saw a little calico run around the corner. Oh great - there's two! They hid in the bushes along the front of my house and I kept seeing the calico one more than the black and white one. It took me awhile to realize there were TWO calico ones. Then I saw a grey one but it looked older than the other three. Common sense tells me not to feed them but I caved.

Ok drumroll please ..... After a mere five years on gardenweb, I have finally taken the time to learn how to post pictures.

This is a photo I took earlier this summer of some dianthus that Millie gave me. (Thanks Millie) It's not blooming now but the mums behind it are.

I always enjoy the photos. Congrats Christie on learning a new skill. Here is a photo I took of one of my daylilies. I had bought this at KMart a 3 or 4 years ago and it was labeled Lullabye Baby which is pink. When it bloomed it is this gorgous bright yellow gold. I think it has been identified from someone on the Daylily Email Forum as Yellow Explosion. I finally got the real Lullabye Baby but like the impostor better.

We wound up with almost two inches of rain from last night. Rained at least two different times with rumbling and lightening. Really thankful for the rain. The moles will have a heyday now--they have been really bad this year but are worse when the ground is wet. I had read somewhere about using powdered Tide for moles. Anyone every try that and how--just sprinkle it around?

I went shopping with my sister and her granddaughter yesterday so need to do some laundry today. Have a rental house in town and the renter moved so need to go check on the house today. Hope we get another good renter--the one that moved was a good one. Not always so lucky.

Christie, so happy you'll be sharing photos. I finally realized I have been using the wrong kind of film for the brighter summer days and the most recent pictures look washed out. I am still using a Canon autofocus film camera and 2 years ago learned to use the scanner and post pictures. Have been doing some trimming this morning. We have basically a wildscape, cottage, herb garden. I enjoy the fragrance of maintaining the herbs. Many of them are becoming mature plants, such as the rosemary, thyme, and sage. Some of the thyme had become so thick Partner used the weedeater to trim it back. I maintain the rosemary and sage as miniature shrubs. I try to keep them trimmed and keep the space clean under and around them. The Arp rosemary and Bergarrten sage have done best. We enjoy watching goldfinches feed on the flower heads of the echinacea and zinnia and this morning Partner noticed them picking seed from the red sage. Still have not noticed many butterflies but they are increasing and noticed a black swallowtail caterpillar on some parsley yesterday. The hummer activity is normal for this time of year. They zoom around everywhere. A baby cottontail rabbit hides in the flower beds along the west side of the house and the west terrace. The photo above is along the edge of the west terrace. We have no domestic animals. Everything quiet here. EP

Beautiful,all of you guys.I enjoy your pictures.Thank you.We got 1 and 1/2" of rain last night.I went out and worked early this morning pulling weeds.Actually made a path back into the garden where there had been one this spring.Husband helped and we dug out 5 or 6 poison ivy plants and he pulled that cinamon vine that I am allergic to.(I look like I've been scalded and itch too!)I planted it 30 years ago and am still trying to get rid of all of it.It makes those little potato things and also has a deep fleshy root.(It didn't bother me until I started trying to get rid of it!)Everything looks so much healthier since the rain.Posy Pet

Susy, we wish we knew what to do about moles. If you try anything that works please share it. I have been out watering and they have tunneled all around my lavenders that I treasure. I saw a small snake in the same area today and hoped it would catch them. I had to soak the earth to fill in the air pockets. We have lost more plants because of moles than anything else. Your day lilies are beautiful. I seem to remember you sharing that you have a day lily garden. They are among our favorites too. EP

I like the rudbeckia(?) and gold daylilies together. Looks like the color is about the same.
Hadn't heard of using Tide for moles. I quit using manure for fertilizer because it seemed like where I used it there were more moles. Maybe it attracted grubs that attracted moles or something. It could've just been a coincidence. They sure can do a lot of damage. It just amazes me that they can dig through our rocky compacted soil though. Why would a mole want to live in the Ozarks?! lol

Posy pet I don't know if I have ever seen a cinnamon vine. We have seen something with a similar leaf in our woods but don't recall seeing the tubers. Good to know it might cause allergic reactions. We've had our share of poison ivy. Thanks for the input. EP

Thats it-the cinamon vine.A friend gave it to me 30 years ago and I had it growing all along the east side of the house where nothing else would grow.It is quite pretty.I must be allergic to something else-have these broken out places on the backs of my legs and above the elbows on the backs of my arms and a little on the front of my legs above my knees.Weeded a LOT after the rain.Pulled all the old larkspur and some perilla and weeds too.I have had this before(not only from the vine).Guess I should rub each on me and find out which plant it is!!!It is terribly hot here.Doing anything leaves me soaking wet with sweat.Posy Pet
