Yes I would direct sow them 3-4 seeds together and thin after they come up. cabbage can take a cooler weather.
Sometimes I will presprout my seeds I take a paper towel dampen it put it in a shallow pan lay out seeds cover with saran wrap and put on top of fridge or a warm spot (don't let it dry out) check every day as soon as they sprout move to the garden. good luck
