Cheri, it's not too late to do layering, but too early to do cuttings because there's still some heat left to the summer.

I propagate my plants by taking cuttings in the last fall, sticking them in the soil in a protected spot where they will not get too much sun, and then put a glass jar upside down over it. Leave it all winter, begin in spring taking the jar off for gradually increasing times on warmish days. Doesn't work for everyone but works for me.

I don't have good luck with cuttings rooted in water with some things. Depends on what it is. Blackberries propagate well if you just bury part of a cane that is long and cascading out. When it has rooted where you buried it you can cut its connection to the mother plant.

I have been picking black berries for our morning smoothies, funny to find that hubby had never eaten them before. I didn't know you could take cuttings and re-root them, thanks for the info.
