I dont think it will make winter you can put it in pot then put pot in ground it looks the same and simple pull it pot and all up when it gets cold.I live in zone 9 and have lost lavender ladys before in the ground they just dont take cool weater well.

I don't have Amethyst but do have Lavender Lady. That won't make it through my zone 7 winter but grows like crazy in a container and can be easily wintered over inside.

I've heard from folks in Z8 that have overwintered it in the ground successfully. I've got a couple of well-rooted cuttings I'm planning to put in the ground and hope for the best. Ditto with Lady Margaret. If they don't make it, I've still got the parent plant.

A year ago my vitifolia successfully overwintered on the south side of my house, but it was an unseasonably warm winter and it still took a beating. I dug it up and potted it, and I'm glad I did--it never would've made it through the January ice storm we had this year. My Incense died almost all the way back, and it's never done that before (my caerula, on the other hand, shrugged it off like ice is no big deal).
