Foxtails and Christmas Palms are not multi-trunked palms, they are singles from one seed. If you see multi-trunked ones, that's because the grower put multiple seeds in the same pot.

The sand you want is NOT from the beach as it is full of crushed shells and will make your soil mix even more alkaline. Builder's sand from Lowes or HD is what you want.

I was half joking when I said sand from the beach. I was more curious about "builders sand". Thanks for clearing that up for me.

As far as the multi trunk palms, I know that Christmas and Foxtail are singles from single seed. I was wondering on the timing of the combination. If it was done as a seed, seedling, or a little later on. You are saying as a seed though?

I transplant individual seedlings to groups of 3-4. The roots fill up a small pot rather quickly. Once the seeds sprout, I put them in a 4" pot and it takes a few months for them to outgrow this size. I then move them in a long container so the roots have plenty of room to grow.

You can do it either way the seeds or the seedlings. I personally like putting seedling in a pot and separating them slightly but either way will work just fine.

I would think it would be difficult to get say 3 of them to be evenly spaced out when they are five years old; especially when those three were combined as seedlings.

Whatever kind of sand you use, just make sure it is very COURSE / large grains. You do NOT want very fine/ powdery sand. It can suffocate, and can also retain water, keeping things constantly wet, and that is NOT what you want at all.

I use play sand from home depot.

I’ve seen people put a ball (basketball or similar) in the center when they get large enough. It forces them to branch out. I’d imagine you could tie them to control their positions. You’d have to look at the ball for a year or so, but in the long run. . .
