I have lots of shade on the south side of the yard by the street/road. I think that slows down my October Glory tree.

Actually, for a real blood red color you can't beat 'Grace' smoketree. Mine is pretty young (3) and I love it.

and of course, the old standbys of dogwood and euonymous.
