Well, I grew it in Arkansas, I consider it a cold season annual, best for temp color early or very late.

I grow both the white-flowered and purple-flowered annual alyssum and have it in my garden right now, still in bloom despite a high temp a few days ago of 103, and it does just fine here. However, it is a cool-season plant, as previously mentioned, so mine is likely at the end of its bloom period. We are really prone to drought here at my end of the state, so some years it doesn't make it through the summer even though it is growing in well-amended clay soil and gets adequate moisture. Other years, it sits and sulks its way through July and August but them reblooms in the fall. I have had the annual alyssum survive a mild winter and come back on its own for a second year, but that is rare and has happened only 2 years out of 16 here.

I haven't grown Basket of Gold although I think it is a pretty plant so cannot comment on how it does here.

I mostly use sweet alyssum to attract beneficial insects and pollinators to my garden from late winter through late spring. By the time it runs out of steam and is suffering greatly from the heat, warm-season flowers are blooming and will continue to attract beneficial insects and pollinators. I've never had a problem with flea beetles on sweet alyssum here, but then, in general, flea beetles aren't much of a problem on anything in my garden. I don't know if the lack of flea beetles here is because I've worked so hard to build the health of the soil (plants growing in balanced, healthy soil have less pest problems in general than plants in less healthy soil) or if it is because we have a healthy population of beneficial insects that help keep the flea beetle population in check, or if it is a combination of the two, or if it is pure luck.

Ok thanks. It may be worth trying here. I do love it and it came back (reseeded) every yr. in Colo. Bloomed all spring and summer! basket of gold was a spring bloomer only..
I'm not sure I had flea beetles that's what I called them they were tiny bugs of some kind :) and hopped around like fleas!
