You can get fruit from a hybrid- My amethyst has fruit all over it, but that's just because I crossed it with my caerulea.. Thing is the seeds will not grow "true" (they won't be the same) to the parent, even if you use pollen from the same plant. The only way to propagate a hybrid & have it remain the same is by cuttings.. But if you want a new hybrid, plant the seeds. WHo knows what it'll look like (in 2 years or so when it blooms) maybe you'll get something *suprising*.

Thank you Krstofer. I'll sow the seeds and see what happens. My own children aren't perfect why should my plants be any different?

And if it wasn't for folks experimenting we wouldn't have such a variety- I think about 3/4ths of mine are hybrids which on one hand is kind of a bummer as often the pollen's sterile, but sometimes will fruit w/ a "true" variety. 'Cource the only one of those I have (in flower) is caerulea.. WHich seems to be quite a popular "dad".

But it's still fun to try, even if the cross(es) I manage have been done before. Never know, even with the same lineage plants have been known to look quite different.

I have two plants from a cross I did and they came from seeds in the same fruit and they are very different! The cross was Violacea x Cincinnata and one is a lovely dark purple, frilly corona, free flowering and strong, the other is much lighter coloured, not so frilly, less free flowering and not nearly as strong - twins but fraternal not identical!
