American Village Institute

Does the American Village Institute still exist? I ran across a reference to them and their plans for simple human-powered implements in an old Rodale Press book called Tools for Homesteaders, Gardeners, and Small-Scale Farmers, which is a very fine book.

Mayapple, did that have something to do with The Farm, there in Summerville, Tennessee? I've got some vague memories floating around in my head; but nothing really concrete about them. Check out The Farm on google or wherever and see where it leads you. Good luck!

No, this was in a place called Kettle Falls, Washington. I think it probably died with all the hippies getting real jobs...
